Khmer Art Overseas: The sale of Khmer antiquities online has been big business in recent times. Most of the auction houses allow for online-bids for their auctions with their inventories and photographs posted long before the deadline dates. Other e-commerce sites, like 1st Dibs act as an online marketplace with pieces for sale from a worldwide network of sellers they trust. Originally founded in Paris, 1st Dibs is now headquartered in New York City. At this moment in time, they have a number of Khmer artworks for sale, which I have highlighted here, though with anything online, its impossible to determine if the artifacts are original and authentic or modern reproductions. Nevertheless, it’s another avenue for collectors to buy Khmer Empire art at cheaper prices than through the Christie’s and Sotheby’s of this world, though some of the pieces featured here are still fetching fairly pricey sums.
